Overcoming the Odds

This past week at a 10k in Ottawa prior to the race start I was talking with this person and as we were visiting she asked what made me come up to the race. Granted, I typically race this race this weekend it was more because it was potentially my last running event before surgery. She asked about my surgery and so I shared about the coming up for my liver and colon resection. She told me how it put it into perspective for her. She told me how she was having GI issues due to having strawberries the night before and she was concerned over that but here I was with stage 4 cancer doing this race and I inspired her.

Later, in the race towards the end with I think 1k left, I saw someone who had leg braces on both legs, and a walker, and he was doing the same event I was, the same 10k run I was and in my opinion pushing himself harder than I was because physically he appeared to be overcoming more than I was. Now, I realize this is my assumption because he may not be going through what I was picturing in my head he was to do the event but me putting myself in what I pictured to be his position I felt that I wouldn’t be out there if I were him.

So rather or someone has it worse or not we all have challenges in life. While one person the challenge maybe one thing and to you the challenge maybe something else it is important to realize we all have challenges and it is up to use to get through them. Only we can push ourselves to get through them. No one can drag us through them.
